Keyword catalog
ImageInfoToolkit allows you to set up a hierarchical keyword catalogue (also called Thesaurus) in four different languages and an unlimited number of sub-levels.
Picture this "genealogical" keyword system as a tree structure similar to the folder system of your hard drive. "Genealogical" in this context means, that every keyword within a hierarchical branch "knows" about the words in the hierarchy above it. Consequently, the keyword "Lower Saxony" in the branch "Germany" will "know" that it belongs to "countries" and "Europe" etc. The above example demonstrates that there are advantages if a keyword catalogue is created with some forsight. However, you can always change a structure if it no longer fulfills your requirements at a later time.
The chapter 'Edit image information' explains how to use your keyword catalog to peform a Quick and easy keywording.
Select "Keywords > Keyword catalog" from the menu to edit a keyword catalogue.
The window below opens.

Keywords of the highest hierarchical level are displayed in the list on the left side (1). A small triangle before a keyword indicates that more hierarchical levels exist below this keyword. Double click on a keyword with a triangle to display the next lower level to the right of that keyword. A single click on an entry selects it and also displays associated synonyms in a list of synonyms (2).
Click on button 8 at any time to display the top hierarchical level.

Add keywords
Enter a keyword in field 4 of the appropriate hierarchical level and confirm the action by pressing return. A dialogue window will display all locations and details of individual branches if a new keyword already exists in branches of the keyword hierarchy (see also Search keywords). Confirm the dialogue if you agree to have multiple entries. The new keyword is now displayed in all hierarchical levels concerned. Cancel the dialogue if you do not want to have multiple entries.
Enter new synonyms for the keyword selected in field 5 accordingly. The synonym list (2) of a hierarchical level selected will now display all synonyms for a keyword.

Delete keywords
With the left mouse button highlight the keyword to be deleted. Then click on the highlighted keyword with the right mouse button. Select the command to delete the keyword in the context menu now displayed. A dialogue alerts you to the consequences of the action planned as keywords will possibly be deleted in lower hierarchical levels as well. Click on OK to confirm the deletion or cancel the action.

Change Keyword
With the left mouse button highlight the keyword to be changed. Then click on the highlighted keyword with the right mouse button. Select the command to change the keyword in the context menu now displayed. You may modify the keyword in the dialogue displayed next. Warning messages are displayed if the new spelling already exists as a synonym or exists in one of the hierarchical branches (see also Search keywords).

Translate keywords
ImageInfoToolkit makes a distinction between your default language and the foreign languages. Only in your default language you are able to add new keywords to the catalogue. When you add a new keyword in your default language, there will be placed the word 'dummy' as a stand-in automatically in every foreign language, until you translate it. You can translate a keyword by choosing the wished language from the combo-box 7. As soon as you work in a foreign language, field 4 will let you edit the marked keyword. The keyword in the default language is displayed field 3. Mark the content of field 4 and type in your translation in the chosen language. Complete your editing by pressing the return key.

Move keyword
Drag the keyword, you want to displace from one level to another, with your mouse key pressed on the targeted level. There must be a keyword selected on the higher level to make a connection with. If the new positioning of the keyword you selected would cause a self reference you will get an error message and the transaction will be aborted automatically.

Search keyword
To search a keyword, simply type it into field 6 and press the return key. If a keyword is found, it will be displayed in the lowest level.

If there are mulitple entries in the keyword catalog regarding your desired keyword, the progam will display a window similar to this one displayed below, to inform you about every single hierarchical branch where the keyword is already registered in the catalog. List 10 shows you all places where the keyword has been found. Selecting one entry with a single mouse click will display the complete hierarchical path 11 of the chosen keyword.
Words in square brackets will show you that these words have been found in the synonym section. In this case you can find the appropriate keyword in front of it. Choose the keyword you need by double clicking it in the selection 10 or mark it with the left mouse button and use the OK button at right bottom of the dialog window.
Pressing the cancel button will bring you back to an unmodified keyword catalog window.

Export catalog
ImageInfoToolkit allows you to export the keyword catalog or single branches of it to a xml file. This is usefull for your personal back up or to exchange keyword catalogs with others. The exported xml file complies to the xml schema keywordCatalog_1.0.xsd
To export your complete keyword catalog select the menu "Keywords > Export...". In the following dialog box you will be asked to choose a name for your export file. A click on "save" will start the export process.
To export a single branch, select the root keyword of the desired branch and perform a right click on the selected keyword. Choose "Export keyword branch..." in the appearing popup menu. In the following dialog box you will be asked to choose a name for your export file. A click on "save" will start the export process.

Import catalog
ImageInfoToolkit offers you the opportunity to import a keyword catalog as a text document. You start an import by choosing the menu "Keywords" > "Import..." . The following dialog will open:

A mouse click on button 1 will open a dialog box, were you can choose the file you would like to import into your keyword catalog. ImageInfoToolkit allows you to import two different kinds of catalog files:

1. A ImageInfoToolkit catalog in xml format. The xml documnet must complie to the schema file http://www.bluebox.eu/schemas/keywordCatalog_1.0.xsd. Otherwise the import will be declined.

2. A tab and return delimited catalog file in plain text format. These text files can only be imported if you checked the option box 2. Some other programs for example 'iView Media Pro' are able to create such files. The text files must be encoded in UTF-8 and must have the following structure :
keyword[return]
[tab]subkeyword[return]
[tab][tab]subkeyword[return]
[tab][tab][tab]subsubkeyword[return]
[tab]subkeyword[return] etc.
Please notice, that the maximum length of a keyword ist 64 characters. Keywords, that are longer than 64 chararcters will be truncated while they are imported without warning.
A "standard import" will add all imported keywords to your already existing data in the keyword catalog. Checking the option 3 "Replace existing catalog" will delete all keywords in your catalog and replace them by the newly imported keywords.
A mouse click on button 4 will start the import process. If you try to import a hugh xml file, this process will need a few minutes. Please be a little patient in this case.

Copy keywords
If you have selected a keyword in the catalog window, the menu "Edit > Copy" will copy all keywords and synonyms of the "keyword path" as a semicolon separated string to the clipboard.
If you perform a right click on a selected keyword and choose "Copy keyword path" in the pop up menu, the keywords and synonyms of the "keyword path" of the selected keyword will be copied to the clipboard. If you  simultaneous press the CTRL key, the "path keywords" will be copied to the clipboard in all available languages.
