|Opening an image|
|After starting the program you can load and process an image by choosing menu "File -> Open... ". If there is already text information implemented in the image you opened, Image Info Toolkit will display it immediately.
WIth a click on tab 1, you are able to view the IPTC , XMP - or EXIF - information.TIFF image files may always include EXIF information, although EXIF is a JPEG based file format, some EXIF fields belong to the general information tags of each TIFF image.
|Image Info Toolkit offers two different ways to add keywords to your image information.
a. Type the desired keyword into field number 3 and use the return key to apply. The keyword will be added to list 4.
b. Open your keyword catalog by selecting menu "keywords" > "keyword catalog". Search and mark your desired keyword inside the hierarchy. Drag the selected keyword with your mouse key held down on the keyword listing 4. All keywords and it's synonyms related to the selected one will be added to the listing 4 at once. List 4 will be sorted automatically after dragging.
If you hold down the CTRL and SHIFT - key while dragging, the list will not be sorted again.
If you hold down the CTRL key only, all kewords and it's synonyms related to the selected one in all available languages will be added to the list 4.
With a click on button 5 you are able to sort the list 4 alphabetically. Alternatively you are able to sort the list entries by dragging the keywords to the desired position.
Optional: you are able to drag keywords into the "caption" field of the IPTC window. The keywords will be listed comma delimited.
Using this technology, Image Info Toolkit gives you the opportunity to caption your images extensively and fast. Edit once -use often.
|Manage input lists|
|To make your workflow a little faster, Image Info Toolkit offers the oportunity to manage input lists for frequentley used entries in a lot of IPTC fields. All fields (like field 6) which have a small plus (+) and minus (-) icon at the right side can handle such input lists.
You can add a new entry to the input list by typing the entry into the field and a click on + symbol near the IPTC field. You will remove an item when you choose it from the list and click on the - symbole beside the field.
|With Image Info Toolkit you are able to exclude single IPTC fields from further processing workflow. This could be useful, if you want to batch process images which already have got some entries in IPTC fields and you want this entries to maintain during further image processing.
You can prevent the entry of a single IPTC field from further processing workflow by deselecting the checkbox near the desired field. (e.g. field 2)
Hint : If you hold down the ctrl key while checking the box, all boxes beside the IPTC fields will get the same value as the one you checked.
|Image Info Toolkit enables you to process an edited IPTC-Information table to a batch of images at once. For this purpose open a new window choosing (Menu "File -> new window"). Without loading an image fill in the different information fields with the values you would like to process to a batch of images at once. Alternatively you may load a template from the template menu you safed earlier or open an image which already contains information.
When you finished editing, you can start the batch processing by choosing Menu "File -> Batch processing".
A dialog window appears, asking you to choose a source- and a destination folder for the processed images. Please choose the folders and click the check button. Checking the box 7 will incorporate all subfolders to the batch processing. After clicking the Ok button the program will start writing the information you have edited into every single image in your source folder and safe it in your destination folder. Image Info Toolkit window informs you about the ongoing process.
Under the menu "File -> Preference" you can influence the behavior of Image Info Toolkit when batch processing is started. There you can optional choose wether you wish to replace older IPTC information in your images or you want the program to add the new IPTC information to already existing data.
If you already have got text files with image information, for example within a separate excel sheet or your image management software, Image Info Toolkit can automatically include this information into the IPTC fields of each image file. For this you will have to make sure that the text information for each image is included within the batch folder as a .csv file ( Comma seperated value ). The structure of the csv file has to follow exactly the following pattern.
"Object name (Title)","keyword1,keyword2,keyword3",
"Special Instructions","Date created", "By-line (Author)","City",
Within the csv file it is not allowed to use carriage return or carriage return/ line feed but the file can be closed with a hard return. Empty fields must be marked as "" . The file name has to be equal to the image file name and it's suffix has to be " .csv " ( ex. Image1.jpg and image1.csv )
If you want to extract the IPTC information from CSV files during your batch process, please check box 1. All Information within the input mask will be ignored during this batch process !
With Image Info Toolkit you are able to save your once edited information as a template for further use. To save your edited information fields as a template choose menu "File -> Save template". A dialogue window will open.
Type the name for your template in the upper input field and save it by a single click on the OK button.
|You load a template by selecting 'File -> Load template' from the menu bar.
A dialog window will appear where you can choose a template from your template collection by a double click on its title or single click on the title and click on the load button.
In the 'load template' dialog window you are able to delete templates you don't need anymore.
To delete a template mark the desired template and click it with a right click. In the appearing context menu you are able to delete the template.
|Choose "File -> Preferences..." from the menu bar and in the opened window choose "Workflow". If you select the option field "Also save IPTC information as text file", all info contained in a picture will be additionally written as a text file when the image is saved. This file can be imported into a spreadsheed to get a columnar view of the data.
During batch processing, an aditional text document will be created in the destination folder. This document will contain the information of all images inside the folder.
|If you do not wish other persons to see the details of your digital photographic workflow, Image Info Toolkit offers the ability to remove EXIF information from your image files. Choose the menu "File --> Preferences..." and within the window choose "Workflow". If you check the option field 'remove EXIF
Information' , Image Info Toolkit will remove the information when the images are safed.
